ipad pro not showing up in finder sync

Details:

  • ipad pro 12.9 4th generation
  • macOS BigSur


Issue:

  • Using a usb-a to usb-c cable to MBP with USB-A
    • the iPad Pro charges
    • but the iPad Pro doesn't show up in the finder


Troubleshooting - result is the same

  • tried 2 cables (usb-a to usb-c)
  • rebooted both iPad Pro and MBP and reconnected
  • upgraded to iOS 15
  • reset network settings
  • Allowed USB - https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT208857
  • reset iPad with all users data.


Not sure why the iPad can charge but not finder mount.

The issue was the cable was rated for power and data but only was for power.

Thanks for the share. I've already seen that article and used it.

  • did not see the trust this computer alert
  • unplugged all usb devices from the computer except this.
  • tried both sides of the laptop usb port
  • tried another iPad Pro which worked which showed the above indicator of a connection


  • used the system information and it didn't show any device on USB.
