clear Safari caches but keep login data?

Hello -- Is it possible to clear Safari caches but keep the login data I use regularly?

Example: Some website isn't working. Some help dept says I should try clearing my caches/history. When I do that, I spend the next week re-logging in to the web sites I use often, such as newspapers, health insurance, Amazon, Paypal, and so on.

Any advice greatly appreciated. Please don't reply with the standard advice about how to clear a cache. I know how to do that.

Thank you

Don

Thank you, Bill T. If I get it right, what you sent is good when I'm signing up to a new website for the first time. But how do I take the 20 websites I'm already signed in to and put them in the Safari web chain so that I don't have to re-enter them when I clear caches?

Thanks

Cheers to you. You suggested I try apple support but neither chat nor phone will allow a login (Sunday night 1/16/22 ET). They don't reject my serial number -- they just don't react when I press "continue."

So they're not at work but you seem to be. I read the support pages you sent. They say when I log in to a site it "may" ask whether I want to add the login info the the Apple Keychain. But the sites don't ask.

So my question is: How do I add my login info for a couple of dozen sites to my keychain, so that those logins wil be protected when I have to clear caches in the future?

FYI, I use a 2020 Macbook Pro with Monterey 12 and an M1 chip

Thank you

Greetings cervus100,

We see you have questions related to login information and Safari cache. We're happy to assist.

As noted by our support page Autofill your user name and password in Safari on Mac stored login information is kept in your keychain, and not a part of Safari cache. Clearing the cache would not have an impact on this data.

We hope this helps!

Hello cervus100,

For a Mac, you may use the steps from Add a password to a keychain on Mac to manually input information into your keychain. On an iPhone How to find saved passwords on your iPhone contains the relevant steps. If you are not able to connect to our support through the previously provided page, Contact Apple for support and service contains a list of our support numbers around the globe that can help you get in touch.

Thanks!

Greetings again cervus100,

The information you've already stored in keychain will remain there even after clearing your Safari cache. If you clear the entire cache and revisit a site which you've stored login information for, you would be prompted to allow keychain to auto-populate the stored login and password as available to reenter the site.

If this doesn't address your concern fully, feel free to contact our support at Get Support to discuss your questions further.

Cheers!
