Hey I just unboxed my brand new M1 iMac 2021. After installing Mac OS 12.1 (Monterey) coming from factory Big Sur I noticed some backlight bleed during start up black screen. I’ve seen worse but should I return it or keep it? Honestly I want to avoid returning it and have the hassle
dark room and 50% backlight brightness. Not sure if it’s the same during startup

No it is not normal or right.
While it may not show up as bad using light mode and a lighter desktop background, I would strongly suggest returning or at least having it looked at.
Returning it or having it looked at, is totally up to you. Keep in mind that you have 14 day to return it with no question asked.
Not sure it would get worse but all you can do is to compare to another unit at the the store. Most have some bleed but not sure how much is normal since I do not have this model.

I just can’t believe that devices pass QA if it’s not normal.
During normal use you can’t notice anything
it’s just while having a full black screen

I bought it online (official apple partner)they’re being very nice and sending me a new unit out. I can wait for its arrival before sending the actual one back to the shop. So i can compare them 👍🏻👍🏻
besides that I love my new Mac
