Word counts and hyphens in Pages

I have to check word counts a lot and used to use Word. Now I can't, because the only version of Word that works on new Macs is that ridiculously-priced Office 365.

In Word, a hyphenated word is one word, in Pages it's two.

Anyone know a way of altering this in Pages? 10 years or so after Pages being introduced, you'd have thought it should be possible by now to allow users to choose which they prefer in the preferences. Not exactly hard to do.

Sorry, I'm not sure I quite understand.

Not your fault.

I can see the word count perfectly well – this is about the way it counts hyphenated words. The normal routine is that a hyphenated word such as "ex-wife" counts as one word, but in Pages it's two.

I don't see anyway to change that. You can always send Apple feedback if you like.
