I tried to install Snow Leopard on an external drive formated in Mac extended jounalised but I get a message that the partition must be Guid.
Is there a terminal command that would solve this problem ?
I use a Mid 2010 Macbook to do this because I am upgrading it with a SSD.

There's no need to try and do this with Terminal. You can use Disk Utility to reformat the external drive with a GUID partition map. Also make sure the drive format is Mac OS Extended. You will or course lose any data already on the external when you format/erase it. Make sure to back up anything there, first.

An unexpected issue you may encounter ... the new internal SSD may not be recognized. Over the years the spinny HDD may have vibrated and ground-down the contacts in the drive cable to "useless". OWC (macsales.com) can sell a replacement drive cable.
