I imported all my pictures of my last 10 years into my new iPhoto library in my new iMac. It has been a few day, computer is on, but iPhoto still has 0 photos analyzed and I don't have any people tagged. Can you please help?

Is there a limit on the size of my local iPhoto library? The library is on external solid-state hard drive. I am keeping my iMac on, but no progress.

iMac 21.5″, macOS 12.1

Hi

What format is the external drive?

It must be formatted APFS or MacOS extended (journaled) (preferred for spinning drives) and not case sensitive.

It Must not be (or have been) used for time machine. (A time machine drive can be used if re-formatted)

It must be able to have the 'ignore ownership" checkbox ticked.

It should not be on a memory stick, SD or similar.

It must also not be a network drive (a direct connection is required - eg USB or Thunderbolt). File sharing services such as iCloud Drive, Drop box, Onedrive etc are not compatible with Photos libraries.

If it is already set up correctly , then there is no limit - but with 10 years of photographs to go at it is going to take some time. Expect weeks - or even months, rather than days.

I've a similar issue since the update to Monterey.

My library was unable to finish the analysis on Big Sur (22496 photos on MacBook Air 2019 i5) and after the upgrade to Monterey seems stuck at analyzing with no progress.

I can search for month and season (spring, autumn...) but unable to go any further several month after the upgrade.

I've done two times the repair of the library and I don't want to do a massive export/import to the library trying to fixing an issue that pursued Apple Photos since my migration from beloved Aperture...

I imported all my pictures of my last 10 years into my new iPhoto library in my new iMac. It has been a few day, computer is on, but iPhoto still has 0 photos analyzed and I don't have any people tagged. Can you please help?
