Classic iPod (5?) seems hung somehow

I have an iPod classic (5?) which boots normally. The problem is that when you plug the iPod into the PC, the iPod immediately puts up the 'Do not disconnect screen' is not seen by iTunes, but the pc sees the iPod's disk and mounts it okay.


I have reset the iPad numerous times, used different USB cables, and It runs all 8 of its internal self-tests okay.


Any ideas?
