macbook air iphoto

My previous Macbook Air would not allow me to update my iphoto. A box would appear that said "iPhoto cannot be updated because it was refunded or purchased with a different Apple ID". So I bought a new Macbook Air, and now this one won't allow me to update iPhoto either. The same box appears. How do I rectify this?

iPhoto is not a thing anymore. iPhoto was replaced by the Photos application quite a few years ago. It shouldn’t even run at all on a new version of macOS, like you would have on your new computer. Photos is updated simultaneously with macOS updates.

I am sort of stumped then. Because it’s not like you can uninstall and reinstall Photos since it’s part of the operating system, which makes things even weirder since surely then it wouldn’t be locked to some different Apple ID… How did you go between your old Mac and your new Mac. Clean install and sign in to iCloud? Migration assistant?
