Safe to re-ship a Macbook?

Hello, I have a co-worker who lives out-of-state and they need a new Macbook. I have two options I think:

1. Apple ships the laptop directly to them. I give them instructions on how it should be configured for our corporate environment.
2. Apple ships laptop to me, I configure it, I put it all back into original packaging (inc. the shipping box) and ship it to them.

If I did #2, is there be a high chance of the laptop being damaged in transit? Thanks!
