Virus scam
I recently got a critical warning on safari I later checked to find out it was a scam but I had already downloaded the app it had wanted it me to what should I do?

I would remove the app. You have not told us what the app is. Sometimes those type of apps will have an uninstaller on their web site. If there is one, I would download it and run it to completely remove all of the various bits and pieces of the app which may be located throughout your OS.
