I just bought a 2020 Macbook air and it needed my time machine to load so I did. My most recent time machine update is six months old. All of my new stuff is in iCloud. How do I get my iCloud files and applications on to my Macbook air?

I just bought a 2020 Macbook air and it needed my time machine to load so I did. My most recent time machine update is six months old, so all of my new stuff is in iCloud. How do I get my iCloud files and applications on to my Macbook air? Do I have to re-erase all of the crap I had six months ago?

Just sign into iCloud, and the Documents and Desktop folders should automatically be pulled down from the cloud, and as for your purchased applications, visit the purchased section of the App Store (App Store > [Your Name].

Thank you. In the finder, iCloud says it is uploading 189 items. Are those things on my new MBA from my old time machine? If so, that's a lot of junk that I deleted going back onto iCloud.

It sounds like they potentially could be. It might be wise to carefully go through and delete the offending items.
