Won't play: Purchased and Downloaded iTunes Movies & TV shows

I've upgraded to an iPad Pro (11" / 3rd gen).

Now, I can't watch my movies and tv shows without using my Apple ID.

On my older iPad that was needed.

What's happened?

(All movies and tv shows were purchased from iTunes.)


iOS: 15.2.1

Capacity: 256GB

Settings: General: iPad Storage

Movies are downloaded.


Tried and didn't work (more than once)

Deleting and reinstalling the Apple TV app.


Tried and worked briefly (more than once)

Deleting and redownloading all my movies and tv shows.


What will it take to correct this issue?

From what you've shared we understand that you're experiencing issues accessing and viewing your iTunes purchases. It will be necessary to sign in to the associated Apple ID to view content: Sign in with your Apple ID


If signing in to the correct Apple ID does not resolve the issue please share the following.


  • What is the exact message or error you receive when selecting content?
  • What is your iPadOS version? Settings > General > About.
  • Do you have any other devices with access your Apple ID? If so, are you able to play content as expected there?

From Googling this issue, it's been an Apple problem for years.

And it's very frustrating.


This never occurred with my prior iPad (model was "iPad.")

I used it to watch movies during overseas flights.


Details:


All media's been purchased from the iTunes Store.

All media's been downloaded to my iPad.

– it shows as downloaded in Settings

– the Library shows the movie and tv show icons

(and lists the year released and length of movie/episode)


But - nothing will play unless I'm logged in through Settings and the iTunes Store.

(which also means, must have wi-fi available)


1) There have been no error messages.

2) I only watch movies on my iPad.


3) Settings>General>About

iOS: 15.3

Model Name: iPad Pro (11") (3rd generation)

Model Number: MHQU3LL/A

Videos: 57

Capacity: 256GB

Available: 189.38GB


4) Tried and didn't work (more than once)

Deleted and reinstalled the Apple TV app.


5) Tried and worked briefly (more than once)

Deled and re-downloaded all my movies and tv shows.
