iCloud backups are supposed to happen automatically overnight, when connected to power, locked, and on Wi-Fi. You can check that this will happen in Settings > [Your Name] > iCloud > iCloud Backups, and ensuring that the toggle is on. You’ll get a notification if the [automatic] backups haven’t been working for the past 2 weeks, once enabled.
