recover flash drive

I just got back from a trip to Africa. I plugged my compact flash disk into my imac. I selected "import all" and clicked the "delete from disk after import" box.

Photos crashed during the upload so no pics got uploaded. But it still wiped the disk clean. is there some way to recover the pics from the disk?

thanks

You’ll want to look into some data recovery software. Don’t have any in particular to recommend. Basically, if a drive is corrupted, if the data probably been written over, but the table saying where the data is located is wiped, then the recovery software will just look everywhere in the drive, to see if there are files.

I've had good results with Picture Rescue. There are other apps.

On a side note: Never let your computer erase data without you first checking that the data is safe. Specifically never use Photos (or any other app) to delete the photos from your Camera Card. Disconnect the camera, check the transfer has gone correctly and then use your Camera to Reformat the Card. This has three advantages:

1. You know your data is safe - because you've taken the time to check it.

2. Reformatting the card is much, much faster - takes a couple of seconds

3. Reformatting also refreshes the Directory Structure on the Card, helping prevent issues with the card and prolonging its life.
