What is a replacement for iDVD

I have used an old MacBook with built in DVD drive to make playable DVDs but iDVD will no longer burn discs playable on a stand alone DVD player. Can anyone recommend an external DVD drive (to use with my M1 McBook Air) and software which can burn a DVD playable on a stand alone DVD player. Thanks

When using any video DVD authoring app follow this workflow to help assure the best qualty video DVD:

Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File Save as Disk Image menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.

To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.

Then burn the disk image to disk with Disk Utility at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

I've used Wondershare DVD Creator demo version and it works fine with Big Sur and Monterey. You need to make sure you have plenty of free space on your boot drive (I recommend a minimum of 100GB) for encoding and optimal app and system performance.
