Ring tone far too loud over AirPods Pro

I just got a call on my phone while listening to music over my AirPods Pro.

The ring tone was FAR too loud. It was so loud, that I instinctively ripped them out and threw them through half of the room! My ears still hurt. The noise level was far beyond damaging levels!

Is there a way to reduce the ring tone volume for AirPods only? I want to keep my "external" ringtone loud, as I am often working in noisy workshops and need to hear my phone

I already browsed forums and this seems to be an issue since 2019. If there is no fix yet, I am really disappointed.

I have the same problem using Phonak hearing aids (linked to iphone 8S by bluetooth, and iphone software uptodate). An incoming call gives a DEAFENINGLY loud ringtone, even when I have the phone set to very quiet conversation or music levels (so that I can hardly hear the incoming caller). Th Phonak audiologist insists that this is a setting of the iphone, not the hearing aids.

Even when I set Settings > Sounds&Haptics > Ringers&Alerts slider to minimum, AND ChangeWithButtons to off, the problem is the same.

Hey Chris,

No, that was not my problem/question and this solution did not help me.

I was listening to music on a normal, low, volume. Then I got called. The ring tone of my phone was played over my AirPods. It was far away from safe noise levels. In fact, I still have a ringing in my ears.

Why do the AirPods suddenly increase the volume to the maximum noise level? And why do they play my ringtone at all?

I found the setting „reduce loud noises“ and I hope it works, because this is unacceptable. I love my Apple products, but this is the first time that I am truly upset and disappointed.
