Bluetooth keyboard regularly goes wacko

I have an older apple bluetooth keyboard connected to an almost new M1 Mac Mini. About once a week or so the keyboard becomes very sluggish with delays responding to key presses and often keys repeating multiple times. The only solution I've found so far is a reboot of the system.

I've seen older reports of similar problems that were supposedly fixed but clearly not in this case. There's also been reports of interference from USB 3 devices but this doesn't explain why it works fine for days (sometimes weeks) and then suddenly goes bonkers. Seems like a serious bug in the bluetooth support (I'm running latest Monterey release).

Suggestions welcome.

Hi there phbcanada,

Congrats on getting your new Mac mini!

We agree, this is an unusual issue, and we'd like to help get your keyboard working smoothly with your Mac.

That's good to know that a restart temporarily resolves the issue, but let's narrow down what may be causing this by confirming the following details:

  1. If you directly plug in your Apple keyboard into your Mac, have you noticed the issue occurring even when you do that?
  2. As it'll help significantly narrow down which device is causing this, have you been able to test another Bluetooth keyboard with your Mac?
  3. What about any unusual behavior from other Bluetooth accessories, like a pair of headphones as one example?

Cheers!
