Controlling TV with Apple Remote

I have a 4K Apple TV and an LG smart tv. I’ve turned on HDMI-CEC (SimpLink) on my tv and the Control TV setting is on in my Apple TV, but the Apple remote still won’t turn on my TV. (Turning the TV off has always worked with the Apple remote.)

FYI, I just checked the settings on my LG TV - right below the option to turn on “SimpLink” (HDMI-CEC) there’s a switch for “Auto Power Sync”. The smart remote “rollover text” for this option specifically says this is what you’re looking for.

The plot thickens! I found the “Auto Power Sync” switch and turned it off, as it had automatically turned on when I turned on “HDMI-CEC.” No change—the Apple remote still won’t turn on the TV. I switched “Auto Power Sync” back on and tried again, just to be sure. Same result. Apple remote will turn off the TV but won’t turn it on.

I did discover the TV remote will control my Apple TV when “Auto Power Sync” is on. Sadly I don’t want to use the TV remote for everything.

Thanks so much for your help, though! Might have to just take the L on this one.

Perhaps your TV differentiates between “sleep” and truly or mostly “off”. I seem to recall one of my TVs having an “eco mode” or some such that it would only be awakened from by pressing the power button on the TV itself or from an infrared signal from the remote (but not via the network from their mobile app). I suspect that your TV is in a state where it’s not monitoring HDMI-CEC.
