Microsoft Edge and Mac OS

Some time ago I started using Microsoft Edge browser on my MBA following some positive reviews. Many of those reviews commented on how little %age CPU usage in gobbled up compared with, say, Safari & Chrome.

However, very frequently I noticed the cooling fans in the MBA hammering away and only this when using Edge. The MBA gets quite warm too.

Launching Activity Monitor confirmed that Edge was using well over 90% of CPU whereas Chrome was using a mere 10-20% and Safari a similar amount.

My question is whether there is known issue with Edge (maybe infected??).

Needless to say I’ve stopped using Edge.

FWIW, Microsoft Edge actually uses the same core and Chrome does and MS adds their "idea" of web browsing around that.

As for excess CPU usage, each web browser will handle some sites differently and may use more CPU or more RAM. To determine if it is the browser, you would need to duplicate the exact same process that causes the issue on different browsers.

Also, make sure your browser is updated to the most recently available versions.

Hi woodmwister50, and belated thanks for your response.

Yes, I visited identical sites (even copy/pasted the URL's) from Edge to both Safari and Chrome.

After 10 mins or so, sure enough the cooling fans cranked up when on the Edge browser.

Again, viewing Activity Monitor the CPU %age was huge compared with the other browsers,

Strange!

Thanks again.
