USB c to headphone jack

I have purchased a genuine apple usb c to headphone jack to use my 3.5mm jack headphones with my iPad Pro 2021 but when I connect nothing happens and the sound continues through the iPad speakers?

I have the same issue and here is what I found. I tried another powered headset and plugged it into usb c connector and it basically ‘woke up’ the port. I then removed the powered headset and plugged in the non powered headset and it continued to work. However if I start with just the usb c and the non powered headset no good, it never works. It has to be a function of the port design with Apple. Frustrating.

Thank you, I have bought two adapters now and neither work with two different sets of headphones so I am thinking it must be an issue with the iPad. Is there a setting that needs changing to recognise the headphones etc? When they are plugged in and I click on the audio tower there is no headphones recognised

@Turnej and @RoaldFalcon - Thank you. I couldn't get my unpowered MX50 to work with my iPad pro, and I went through two 3.5mm USB-c adaptors before I found this thread. It worked fine after powering off the iPad and restarting with the headphones attached. Like you, I suspect the USB-C connector only checks unpowered connections on startup.

HI Turnej,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. We understand that you're having some issues using your USB-C to Headphone Jack Adapter.

First, make sure that the issue isn't with your headphones by testing another set of headphones if possible.

If you find that this adapter is not working, it may be best to contact Apple or the retailer where the adapter was purchased. You can reach out from Get Support or using the direct phone number for your region from Contact Apple for support and service.

Take care.
