How can I record internal sound while recording from a Facebook Room?

I recorded (with permission) however it only recorded what I was saying not the other participants. I was wearing ear buds.

Is there a way to record using the internal record option and picking up the dialogue between all the participants?

Thanks

to record the mac's internal sound with quicktime you need additional software. i use the free BlackHole Virtual Audio Driver. then you can choose "BlackHole 2ch" in the recording options instead of "Built-in Microphone."

you will also need to set up a multi-output device in your audio MIDI setup utility to be able to both hear and record the internal audio at the same time.

to set up a multi-output device:

Open Audio MIDI Setup: (found in /Applications/Utilities)

hit the '+' button in the bottom left corner and select "Create Multi Output Device"

then in the panel that appears on the right, in the Multi-Output Device tab, select "Built-in Output" AND "BlackHole 2ch". (and, if you want, any of your other connected devices.)

once you do that, (and BEFORE recording) you can choose "BlackHole 2ch" or "Multi-Output Device" in your menubar "sound options".

to both hear the speakers and record the audio at the same time, choose "Multi-Output Device". before choosing multi-out, set the internal speakers' volume to a comfortable level first. you cannot control the volume once you are in multi-out mode.

then, to be able to record the internal audio as well as your microphone, it's slightly different. you need to set up an “Aggregate Device”

to set up an Aggregate Device:

Open Audio MIDI Setup: (found in /Applications/Utilities)

hit the '+' button in the bottom left corner and select “Create Aggregate Device”

then in the panel that appears on the right, in the Aggregate Device tab, select “BlackHole 2ch” AND “Built-in Microphone”

then when you choose the recording options, select “Aggregate Device”.

once you do that, (and BEFORE recording) choose “Multi-Output Device" in your menubar "sound options".

EDIT: you can substitute your earphones for the "built in output" in the multi output device.

For a start, as mentioned in the OP I am not using QuickTime, I'm using Facebook Rooms.

Secondly, when I did try to use the product your plugging it didn't work. It downloaded, wouldn't let me move it to a install location I could find easily and then disappear when I was feeling forced to place it where the install wanted me to place it.

So now it's floating around somewhere within the confines fo my computer not being found or utilised at all.

So now what?

Will it work for Facebook Rooms?

If so, how so?

i don't use anything facebook, so i was unaware they had their own recording options. my answer specifically mentions QuickTime, which i exclusively use to record anything on my mac. since you are NOT using QuickTime, you could have asked me about that before installing something you were uncertain about onto your mac.

Secondly, when I did try to use the product your plugging it didn't work.

i'm not "plugging" anything. i offered advice to you about something i use myself, and i get absolutely no compensation or any perk for recommending it to anyone. nor am i affiliated with the developer.

i don't know why you would want to put it somewhere other than it's intended location it lands in upon installation. and it's not an app, just an audio plugin that works with QuickTime. you won't see it in your applications folder. i don't know which one of the thousands of folders it could possibly be in. i use it by choosing it in my menubar sound options. that's the only place i see it. but even if you are not using it, it uses almost zero room on your local drive. (only a few Kb) and it's not going to hurt anything. it only does it's thing when you select it within QuickTime.

So now what?

Will it work for Facebook Rooms?

i don't know, but i doubt it. is designed to work specifically with QuickTime and / or the screenshot app. if you can't figure out facebook's recording options, you could always try and use QuickTime to record your meetings. and since you have permission, you can use QuickTime with the same legality as facebook's own recording utilities.
