Certain folders showing up as empty in network

When connecting my Mac desktop computer to my MacBook Pro over a network, I am able to see some of the MacBook folders' contents on the network but not all of them. For instance my MacBook's Desktop, Downloads and Documents folders inaccurately appear on my Mac desktop as having zero files, but the file contents of the MacBook's other folders like Movies, Music, Pictures, etc., I can see and access just fine.

I've tried logging out and in, restarting, changing permissions, etc., with no success. This issue persisted even after upgrading to Monterey 12.1 from Big Sur on both computers. Would welcome any suggestions.
