bLocked out of old Ipad and New Mac wont talk to it

I have a very old iPad (excellent condition) and a new Mac book pro. I have locked myself out of my iPad when I was trying to do a factory reset.

I tried downloading iTunes on my Mac and it says my driver is too new.

HELP
