CD/DVD external drive

For a MacBook Pro model A 1502

anyone recommend external hard drive for DVD's, CD' s. I have already been through 2 different models and they stopped working. Bought the one recommended at Apple store.

Something not too expensive?

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 10.13

Apple's SuperDrive has worked well for me for many years.

My external drive stopped reading DVD's after the last Monterey update. CD's still work. Is there a fix?
