While attempting to install Monterey the screen keeps asking for my admin name and password in a loop

I am attempting to install Monterey. When I do I get to a screen that asks if I want to continue. When I do it asks for admin user name and password. When I enter that it accepts the password (if I intentionally choose a bad one the log in screen denies the request and shakes). However installation does not proceed. Instead I get stuck at the same screen that asks if I want to continue. When I do it asks for admin user name and password again, forever.

Go to your Applications folder and delete the existing Install macOS Monterey installer.

Then boot to Safe Mode. That boot up takes minutes and clears caches and other things that may resolve your problem.

How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support

When in Safe MOde download the Monterey installer and try installing while in Safe Mode.

A lot of times just boot to Safe Mode followed by normal boot resolves problems.

If you go to System Preferences>Users and Groups can you unlock the padlock in lower left?

Is this you personel Mac and not administered by a school or company?

This is my personal Mac. I can unlock the padlock, but that does not change the installation problem
