Keyboards do not work in Split Screen on iPad Pro

Both my (very expensive) Apple Magic Keyboard and a cheap blue tooth keyboard stop working when I try to work in split screen. Any text editing app…..Drafts, Notes, Ulysses. None work in split screen. SOMETIMES I can get a response by toggling the PREDICTIVE TEXT setting, but that is so inconsistent it is almost not worth the frustration.

This is killing my work flow and ability to get things done on my Ipad Pro. Has anyone discovered a fix for this?

Before I submitted this, I opened MAIL in split screen next to safari and sure enough I could not type in this window. When I went out of split screen, it was still not working until I went into setting and toggled PREDICTIVE TEXT.

Very annoying bug.
