vertical video how to export without black on the sides

I've been given a video in a vertical format. If you were to look at the video on your screen, it would be about 6.5" wide and 7.5" tall. I've been asked to blur out a face. I import the clip, and FCPX fills up the 960x1080 with black bars to the sides. No matter what setting I use, there are always gigantic black bars on either side of the video. I can't find a setting for oddly shaped video or vertical video. How do I maintain the vertical video shape on import so that I can blur the face and then export at the same dimensions?

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 10.14

That's not a standard vertical size. Make new project and select Custom and set the frame resolution to match the video

You need to give exact frame resolution information. Open the clip in the QuickTime player and post a screenshot of what it shows in the full inspector window.

oh yes, thank you! Ok - here is a screenshot of the inspector, a screenshot of the first frame of the original video, and a screenshot of the first frame of the exported video. None have been cropped.

Oh man - this is very helpful. (I'm sure you can tell I'm a rank beginner at this.)

Can you tell me why, when I import the file you see above, which is 6.8MB, and all I do is add a "Censor" effect blur over the driver's face, and then choose to share (export) the file, it's suddenly 30MB?

I am SUPER thankful for your help!

Camera originals can be very heavily compressed. FCP uses higher data rate for better quality. Unfortunately you have very little control over it. If you use Export File and set the first popup to Computer it might be somewhat smaller, but still not as small as the original.
