I can't find my old imessages

If messages are missing, the only way to recover them would be via a pre-existing backup from either iCloud or iTunes/Finder. You can see how to restore your device from a previous backup here:

• Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from a backup

Outside of that if the messages are not in the thread, there would not be a way to recover them.

We see you're unable to locate old iMessages.

To aid us in isolating this issue, can you confirm the following?

• Is Messages toggled on under iCloud in Settings > [your name] > iCloud? If so, was it also toggled on when the message you're trying to locate was received?
• Is the setting you're referring to the one under Settings > Messages > Keep Messages?
• Is this an issue only for one specific contact or if you have other contacts with history going back that far, are those messages there?
