From your post it appears you are wondering if location sharing will work when the battery of an iPhone runs out.
Since sharing the location does require an internet connection, it will not work if the battery is depleted. When the battery runs out, the last known location may be displayed for up to 24 hours. More information is available here: Locate a device in Find My iPhone on iCloud.com - Apple Support
