Apple TV only playing audio/screen goes black

When I try connecting my iphone (15.2.1) or macbook (mOS Monteray) to my apple airplay compatible tv i am only getting audio transferring to the tv and the screen goes black. I have done the default steps of updating firmware on all 3 devices, ensuring connection to the same wifi network, resetting all devices, resetting wifi network).

Since the devices are connecting to the tv speakers via there is some form of connection but not sure why the picture won't work. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
