Is Java still needed on an iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2017) with Monterey v.12.1?

I have noticed that Java (8 update 91) is the latest version on this iMac.

A message shows up that (8 update 321 build 07 (83mb) is available.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I thought that Java is a Windows software.

I do know that at some point a Windows device was backed up, or migrated, onto iMac that I am currently using.

Can I uninstall Java without any issues?

Thank you for your time and assistance with my concern.

It is supposed to be platform agnostic, not Windows, Mac or Linux. Anyway, if you don't have anything that uses it, you can remove it. That said, be prepared to re-install in case something *does* need it.
