How do I set notifications so that I'll be notified on my watch when I leave my phone behind?

"You're holding it wrong" didn't work for Steve and isn't working for you.
In "Find My" for my phone, Notify when left behind is ON and "enabled for your Apple Watch".
Maybe somebody a little less arrogant has an idea what's not working.
1) "Steve" is Steve Jobs, a cofounder of Apple. When confronted with a design problem in an early iPhone model, he accused the user of not holding the phone correctly, suggesting the problem was with the user, not the product.

Notify is ON and ENABLED FOR THE WATCH! So why didn't I get a notification on my watch when the phone was left behind?
