Hello Highmac!

Thanks for your post to Apple Support Communities. We have help for the app and feature you are looking for on your iPhone. The "spirit level" feature you are looking for is no longer in the Compass app but now in the Measure app. Here's more information on that:

Use iPhone as a level

Once you open the Measure app, tap on the Level tab at the bottom. You can then use your iPhone as a level. If you need to install this Apple app on your iPhone, here's the link to do so from the App Store:
