If my iPhone 11 has almost reached it's storage, can I back up my phone to the cloud?

Storage on my iPhone 11 is 61.7GB or 64GB.. this is the second time this has happened in a year!

Can I back my phone up in iTunes? Cloud?

iPhone XR, iOS 14

Backing up would save a copy to the backup medium but would not save space.

Use Settings, General, iphone storage to inspect which apps are using space

Three normal choices

  • Turn on iCloud Photos and in Settings, General, iphone storage turn on Optimise Storage to halve the photos space
  • Import photos and media to your computer in Photos app using the "Delete on import" option then sync back certain albums or dates to the phone
  • Turn on iCloud Drive or similar cloud database and move photos and media there
