Try this. Go to system preferences Network. In the left pane make sure to click on the WIFI. Go to advanced. Now click on the school wifi network and delete it. Now click the + and then click show networks and find school network in list. click on it and join. Might have to go to top desktop menu and click on Wifi and select the school network. In case there are other networks in the area. You can also check wireless diagnostics by holding down the option key and clicking on the wifi icon.

You should be able to go to the top right menu and click on WIFI. pick your schools network and join. If if requires a password add it. Or use join other networks. In this case you need to know the name, incryption WPA or whatever and password. Connect to the internet with your Mac - Apple Support If by chance your school network is configured for Windows only, here is something to try. https://www.macobserver.com/tmo/answers/how_to_troubleshoot_connection_issues_on_public_wi-fi_networks
