Playing a previously created DVD-R on my MacBook Pro running High Sierra

I want to play a previously created DVD (in 2012) on my 17" MacBook Pro running OS High Sierra. When I put the DVD into the drive on the side, it shows up on my desktop, but when I go to play it, there is no sound and the images are showing only in the left third of the screen and only about five play over and over. How do I play the movie I created back in the day?

MacBook Pro 17″, macOS 10.13

You may have to copy it to the Mac then convert it...
