Two step verification

To turn on Two step verification Apple is asking me to verify the security code of an old credit card. I have no idea what that code is now. How do I get around this??

iMac 27″, macOS 12.1

Hello,

Apple normally does not ask for a security code from a credit card for Two factor authentication. It is a code sent to another Apple device that you have to enter on the Apple device you are using. You can find out more here: https://support.apple.com/HT204915
It could also be that you are in the option for adding or editing a payment method for your Apple ID and is asking for a security code on the credit card.

It is verifying payment info on your Apple ID. Did this come up randomly, when you tried to download an app etc?

You can try going to this website and adding a new payment method: https://appleid.apple.com/account/manage/section/payment

Since I posted the original message yesterday the "problem has been fixed". I signed in this morning and when asked to turn on two step verification I was asked to verify my payment method with my "current" credit card and not the "invalid" card.
