Eizo Flexscan EV2495

I recently installed an Eizo 24-inch EV2495 (1920 x 1200) as external monitor to my MacBook Pro 13" (2019) running Monterey 12.1 and am not happy with the resolution I get. I have tried all resolutions available in display preference (incl. the extra you get at "show all resolutions", but the text I see is slightly blurred both in the Finder and in applications like Mail, Safari, Outlook, Word, etc. I am using the USB-C connection but have also tried HDMI though two dongles - still same result. When I connect my iPad Pro through the same USBC cable that came with the monitor the picture incl. text is perfectly sharp (although it does not fill the screen horizontally but match the iPad display). I.e. the screen itself is clearly good.

Not being an expert, I wonder it the monitors 16:10 vs the retina displays 16:9 format is what makes the slight blur that is most visible with letters? Anyone who knows if there is a workaround?

Thanks

Hello peria001,

Thanks for reaching out to us in Apple Support Communities about the resolution your get when connecting to an external monitor. We're happy to help by looking into this more!

Just to verify, you're using the steps found in this article:

If your external display isn't detected or appears blurry on your Mac

Also, have you tried connecting your MacBook Pro to different external monitor to see if that produces any different results?

Best Regards.

Thanks c_luc9!

Yes, I also use an external 27" Samsung monitor through HDMI + dongle at the office giving sharp image. I have again tried all settings suggested and also tried to repeat everything using HDMI connection instead. The Flexscan monitor has one more setting for how the input signal is handled with HDMI, but none makes a difference at any resolution.

Interestingly, I see Windows PC screens shared over zoom sharper than my zoom controls on my screen. The resolution during the zoom call was 1920x1040 - that seems like the resolution that should be the output in order to give me a sharp image, but that resolution is not available in the settings even at "show all resolutions". I understand that might give some black at top and bottom, but that would be acceptable.

Any ideas how to set 1920x1040 (or at least "normal" 1920x1080) as resolution?

peria001,

If your Samsung monitor is displaying properly with your MacBook Pro, that would tend to indicate the issue you're seeing is not with your Mac. This could indicate the issue is with the cable, adapter, or even the monitor. The next best step would be to reach out to the manufacturer of the monitor to see if they have any suggestions that could help with using this particular monitor.

As far as the available resolutions your MacBook Pro is compatible with, this article shows this information:

MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2019, Four Thunderbolt 3 ports) - Technical Specifications

Hope this helps.

Best Regards.
