Removing Avast from my MacBook Air

I don't understand the explanation in the previous questions and answers on the above. I can't drag it to the garbage as it says it's open and I understand the Control/Alt key but the "File>Delete immediately". What do I hit after the control/alt key. Please and thanks.

To uninstall software downloaded from the Internet in general, follow its uninstallation instructions or contact its developer for assistance. For "Avast" try https://support.avast.com/en-ww/index


Install and uninstall apps from the internet or a disc on Mac - Apple Support

Contact a third-party vendor - Apple Support
