How do I release an IMEI associated with my apple ID?

You have to "remove the device" from your Apple ID.


From an iOS device: Go to Settings > Apple ID, iCloud, Media & Purchases. Scroll down and select the device you want to remove, then tap "Remove from Account."


From a Mac: Go to System Preferences > Apple ID then select the device on the left side of the window and click the "Remove from Account..." button on the right side of the window.
