Family Share/Share Play/"It's not possible."

Spent 3 hrs last wkd on Support with 4 VERY poor Level 2s, one actually rude, trying to share Macbeth on my Apple TV subscription via my 10-day-old MacBook Air (Monterey 12.1) for my non-Apple niece's b-day. Told it was impossible if she didn't have Apple hardware. True? Apple customer 29 yrs: fed up now, missing the Steve Jobs School of Apple.

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 12.1

See Set up Family Sharing - Apple Support. Although it doesn't say so in so many words setting up family sharing requires that both parties have Apple devices from which to send a receive the invitations. A workaround I used when setting up Family Sharing for my children was to create additional user profiles on my Mac and accept the invitations there.

Thanks for the suggestion. I hope it helps other users. My niece is in Seattle and I'm in Maine so it won't help us. If Apple is confining SharePlay and FamilyShare to Apple hardware, they simply must say so. If they aren't being explicit in documentation, at the very least Support personnel should know and tell customers. It took four Support personnel before someone said Apple hardware was required. NOT COOL.

Thank you, but I don't feel confident "feedback" gets read. After many years of wonderful Apple products and support, my customer service experience of the past two weeks has undermined every confidence built over nearly three decades as an Apple loyalist. In addition to Support issues on the SharePlay/Family Share question, I got really poor service in the local Apple store when I bought my new MacBook Air. I'm writing Tim Cook. I wish instead I had contacts for the folks now in charge of customer service training who might do something, but I am only one person. I used to matter to Apple, but not now, as their staff members have made abundantly clear.
