I get a notification banner coming up when an alarm goes off, how can I stop it? The clock app isn't shown under settings/notifications so no way to control it there.

Yes LD150, that's what I meant. My previous iphone, an iphone5, didn't give me a notification banner when the alarm went off and that was fine, all I got was the alarm screen which let me turn it off or snooze. My new iphone does come up with a banner and it's just another annoying thing I don't need or want!
When the notification appears you can drag down with your finger giving you the option to tap stop or snooze.
I know. But you can’t. If you use my method it you can stop the alarm without it automatically opening the clock app.

Exactly, you can't.
You are stuck with it unless you use a third party alarm or clock.
