Why is Messages accessing my microphone while my phone is locked? Siri is disabled.
I have Siri completely disabled at every level on my iPhone. I noticed the microphone icon in the upper left corner of my iPhone when I was unlocking my phone. I went to privacy settings to look at what was accessing my microphone while my phone was locked. I have given permissions to a couple of trusted apps to use my microphone. That did not provide an answer, so I dug a little deeper.
In the app privacy report I saw a few things. Messages has the most network activity, though it is not my most used app that is connected to the internet. That is strange. I went into the report and saw a timestamp for the microphone access. Messages was what was accessing my microphone while my phone was locked.
I looked for a way to turn off Messages access to my microphone, but there is no such setting. I do not have Siri enabled, so that is not why Messages is accessing my microphone. Why is Messages accessing my microphone? Why can't I turn off access to my microphone for the Messages app? My use cases do not require Messages to have access to my microphone. I do not want Messages to access my Microphone.
Why is Messages accessing my microphone while my iPhone is locked? What happens to the information gathered by Messages through my microphone while my phone is locked? What is the purpose? Who has access to it? Where is it stored?
Logging into my devices with my Apple ID is not express consent to change my iCloud and Privacy settings on those devices. Yet, Apple does this. Apple changes iCloud and Privacy settings on my personal devices when I login to that device with my Apple ID... which is necessary from time to time after various occurrences, such as a major OS update. I shouldn't have to babysit my iCloud and Privacy settings to ensure that Apple isn't changing them without permission... yet that is what I am forced to do.
It's a crying SHAME Apple. A privacy sham.
