Apple Watch connection to Bluetooth headset

I have Bluetooth earbuds comprising headphones and a mic. They work well with my iPhone when making calls. However, when I try to use them to make calls on my Apple Watch, whilst I can hear the person on the other end of the line, they can’t hear me. It’s as if the Bluetooth mic isn’t recognised by the watch but at the same time the watch’s in-built mic stops working when they’re connected. I had a similar problem with my previous Bluetooth headphones, although in their case the watch simply ignored the Bluetooth mic and I had to speak into my watch whilst listening through headphones.

Can anyone suggest how to get my watch to recognise the microphone on my earbuds for calls?

Hi JonathanONeillUk,

Thank you for using the Apple Support Communities! We understand that you're unable to utilize the mic on your Bluetooth headset when making a call from your Apple Watch. We'd like to help.

Take a look at this resource: Use Bluetooth accessories with Apple Watch - Apple Support. You'll find some troubleshooting steps in this article, which we would like to have you complete, under the 'Get help' section. If the behavior remains, please respond to the following questions:

-Do you also have the same issue when you connect a different Bluetooth headset with your Apple Watch?

-Are both your Apple Watch and companion iPhone updated to the latest software?

-Are there any updates for the firmware on the headset?

Thank you for your post!

Regards.
