iOS 15.3 - Hotspot broken with 15.2 fixed yet?

The 15.2 update broke the hotspot on my iPhone 13 mini. After jumping through hoops with Apple and my carrier (since carrier controls the hotspot), Apple determined the only fix was to replace the phone, even though the hardware tested good. Before I left the Apple store with my iPhone 13 mini #2, I asked the Genius Bar person if I should do the update to 15.2, and she was OK with it, so I did the update. It immediately broke the hotspot on phone #2, thus verifying a hotspot bug in 15.2 (Phone #1's hotspot had also worked perfectly fine on 15.0 right until I updated it to 15.2). After waiting about a week for the order to arrive, I picked up iPhone 13 mini #3, which was and still is on 15.1. Hotspot is working fine.

I see iOS 15.3 is now out with "bug fixes". Has the 13 mini (256GB, blue) hotspot broken by 15.2 been fixed yet in 15.3? I'm sure Apple is aware of this problem... the second phone's hotspot was broken by the 15.2 update right in front of Apple Genuis bar people (I can provide the repair order # to identify the issue more clearly if needed). I will not update this phone without verification from Apple that this bug is fixed because I rely on the hotspot for my home internet needs. (Or promise to replace the phone again, though it's now beyond the 2 month limited warranty...)

Use these steps first

Restart the iPhone or iPad that provides Personal Hotspot and the other device that needs to connect to Personal Hotspot. Make sure that you have the latest version of iOS. On the iPhone or iPad that provides Personal Hotspot, go to Settings > General > Reset, then tap Reset Network Settings.

If Personal Hotspot is not working on your iPhone or iPad (Wi-Fi

The Hotspot is a carrier-specific feature. Contact your carrier, if it is not appearing on your device.

Also, check the following

  1. Network coverage and stability
  2. Data Balance
  3. On your windows (See if WiFi Auto Joins is enabled)
  4. Also, check if you have any stronger WiFi signal around your computer.

OK, thank you for that information then. I'm new to Apple, and I assumed wrong that Apple has support people here. Frankly, they can be hard to reach. I might be able to direct email the Apple support lady that helped me the most still though.

On the other hand, this is good information for Apple users. I did a search for hotspot and 15.2, and there were very few posts with this exact issue. It's would be good for them to know that, at least with the 13 mini 256GB, the hotspot will break or be broken on the 15.2 update, and that it isn't a carrier issue or hardware issue if they have a hotspot that connects but says "no internet" on the hotspotted device. And possibly 15.3 would be risky to update to if they are on 15.0 or 15.1, assuming it hasn't been addressed yet. My phones were being replaced by Apple towards the beginning of this month (last one that made it really obvious, breaking the feature in the Apple store was Jan 11, 2022), so I'm guessing they haven't had time to address it and be done with the bug fix in two weeks between then and the release of 15.3 if my report was the primary report. But I'm convinced from my experience with multiple phones that it affected every iPhone 13 mini 256GB (and possibly other varients of iPhone 13) that was updated to 15.2, so probably thousands of phones.

I know most wouldn't notice if the hotspot breaks because it's a feature most people don't use. If anyone reading this happens to have a 13 or 13 mini and are still on 15.2, and have a plan that includes hotspot, please test the hotspot and tell me whether it works for you (and the what phone you have exactly). If it doesn't work, please update to 15.3 and tell me if that fixes it.

Please read my initial post more carefully. The hotspot not working was determined by Apple to NOT be the carrier's issue or fault. It was the fault of update 15.2. Genius Bar support put my SIM into one of the "floater" phones in the Apple store, and the hotspot worked perfectly fine. Hardware was also tested to be good for both phones with broken hotspot on 15.2. The hotspot IS working on my current phone, the second replacement phone (third phone overall), which is currently on 15.1, so I DON'T need a fix for it. What I am asking is: when is it safe to update the phone and be ASSURED BY APPLE that the hotspot will still work after the update.

I'm just asking if the 15.3 update will break the hotspot, like the 15.2 update did to TWO different new iPhone 13 mini 256GB phones. I need to know when it is safe to update the phone from 15.1. 15.2 has a known hotspot broken bug to me. 15.3, who knows if they have had time to fix it yet? they need to list the "bug fixes" more specifically for me to determine if it is a safe update to apply. Apple knows there is a bug in the 15.2 update that breaks the hotspot because I and the Apple support and Genius bar people I worked with reported it and hopefully got the message to the engineering team working on updates.

In theory and real life, Apple is in possession of two iPhone 13 mini 256GB phones with hotspots that don't work on 15.2 that were formerly mine, that I turned in for this 15.2 hotspot issue. I hope they have been forwarded to the engineering team. Theoretically, they could apply the 15.3 update to either or both of those phones to test if the hotspot works (with a working SIM with a hotspot plan).
