iMac Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2020 keeps restarting (randomly)

Hello to the community!

I am dealing with a very frustrating issue.

My iMac keeps restarting randomly mainly when I use adobe's software (Photoshop, Illustrator) and when it turns on again is showing multiple error logs.

The machine has the following configuration:

Processor: 3,8 GHz 8-Core Intel Core i7

Memory: 40 GB 2667 MHz DDR4

Graphics Card: AMD Radeon Pro 5500 XT 8 GB

  1. I have tried all the recommended stuff from "If your Mac restarted because of a problem" but the issue still remains.
  2. I returned the machine to an apple store for repair but the restart never happened to them so they just gave me back the device.
  3. I tried unplugging all the peripherals but still the random restarts are happening
  4. The restarts are happening even with the official RAM installed or the upgraded one I have now.
  5. I have done all the official updates (I just did not updated to monterrey yet).
  6. I have contacted Adobe but nothing came out from this communication.

I just ran an etrecheck report which I will post below hoping that someone could help me. I am really desperate.

Can please someone help me?

Thanks a lot in advance!

Hello exelorien,

Thanks for that info and for choosing the Apple Support Communities. If we understand correctly, you are having an issue with your iMac restarting unexpectedly. First, run the built-in Apple Diagnostics to see if this will give more info about your situation:

How to use Apple Diagnostics on your Mac

Apple Diagnostics: Reference codes

Next, use safe mode to start up your Mac as it does the following things:

  • Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed
  • Loads only required kernel extensions
  • Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically
  • Disables user-installed fonts
  • Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files

Log in to your user account and test the issue while in safe mode and then restart normally and test the issue again.

Cheers!

Thanks for replying, exelorien, and that additional info, it really helps! Next, try running First Aid on your hard drive with the built in Disk Utility tool, as this can correct simple issues like you're experiencing.

You can figure out if unexpected behavior is related to a user file or setting by trying to reproduce the issue from another user account. This process includes creating a new user account, logging in to it, and testing for the issue.
