iPad wanted for Facetime and nothing else

I run a small business. I normally use Android but I sometimes need to use Facetime. I'm looking at purchasing a second-hand/refurbished iPad (wifi only) for this purpose. A few questions:

  • What is the earliest generation of iPad that would be able to do this?
  • Do refurbished devices usually have new batteries (can easily have connected to charger while in use)?
  • What charging cable/charger would be used for a suitable device?

I'm looking at well under A$500, because I can get a new device for this price.

Thanks in advance for advice.

Hello Robert Sch,

Thank you for posting in the Apple Support Communities. We'd like to share some information with you.

First, if you're simply wanting to join a FaceTime call, you might be able to do that from your Android device. However, if you're wanting to initiate FaceTime calls, then yes, you'll need an iOS, iPadOS, or macOS device. Also, FaceTime isn't available in all regions. Check this out to learn more about using FaceTime:

Join a FaceTime call from an Android or Windows device

Use FaceTime with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

You can use FaceTime on iPad Pro (all models), iPad 2 or later, and iPad mini (all models). When buying from Apple's refurbished products website, many come with the appropriate cable and adapter. Also, all certified refurbished iPad models include a new battery and outer shell.
