how do i log my family member into the ipad
i am trying to log my son into the ipad that is currently using my apple id. i have set up a family sharing email for him

You can only connect the device to one Apple ID. If he will be using the iPad, it should be set up with his Apple ID.
You can reset the device as new by following: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201351
Then set it up using his Apple ID
