There has been a few post regarding 3G network phones that are not going to be able to make and receive calls and that a upgrade to 4G or 5G is needed especially in rural areas. How true is that.

You would need to contact the cellular carriers themselves for their timeline.
Apple is not a cellular service provider. Apple is the manufacturer of iPhones. The questions that you are asking are for your Cellular Service Provider who maintains the service in your area/country etc. Please contact your carrier and ask them the question for an accurate response.
