iCloud Storage Concern

Hello, Apple community. I’m having a little struggle right now with the iCloud storage. I am thinking of disabling and deleting iCloud Photos or Backups as it taking up storage kind of quickly. I am wondering, does disabling and deleting iCloud affect anything that’s currently in my iPhone? And does disabling and deleting iCloud Photos delete all my images in my camera roll? All answers are appreciated!

Hello SouljaFlight,

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. We've reviewed your question and it looks like you have concerns about what will happen if you disable iCloud Photos and/or backups on your iPhone. It's understandable that you'd want this resolved, so allow us to assist with that. Please start by taking a look here: Change your iCloud settings. It explains: “When you turn it off, the app will no longer connect with iCloud, so your data will exist only on your device.” Your backups would also stop, but that will not remove your content.

If you are having space issues with iCloud, you may also consider upgrading your iCloud Storage account to allow for more room: Upgrade to iCloud+.

That is another good question, SouljaFlight. It's always good to make sure you know exactly what you're doing before taking any steps. This article explains more about how iCloud Photos works, including what happens when it's turned off: Get help with iCloud Photos. Please check the "How do I remove all iCloud Photos content from iCloud and my devices?" section for specific information on the next steps.

To summarize: If you have the full versions of the photos on your iPhone or other device, nothing would be removed on it by turning off iCloud, as long as you use the "Download and Keep Originals" option explained in the article. Otherwise, in 30 days once the photos are removed from iCloud, you will not be able to download the full photo from iCloud any longer, so make sure that change is made first.

If you have further questions, please let us know. Take care.

Great question! It depends on what you mean by "won't affect anything", SouljaFlight. None of your content will be deleted, but you will no longer have access to data on other devices that is synced through iCloud and you won't be able to back up to iCloud.

We hope that helps to clarify things! Please reach out if we can be of any further assistance. Take care.
